In 2005 when I first ventured into painting as an outlet for dealing with the debilitating symptoms of chronic disease, a diagnosis of ME/CFS, and all the losses that went with it I focused on macro flowers as my subject. As part of my healing process I'd been spending a good amount of time sitting or lying down in my own backyard which is filled with roses and other flowers. The experience of disease, loss and the slow pace of inactivity caused me to go inside myself, and at the same time it led me to go inside other things, to see details I had not before noticed. I saw much beauty in the lines, details and colors found inside flowers. It felt like a secret place that only shows itself to those who take the time to notice, and time was all I had. After painting macro flowers for a few years I met my art mentor, Ricardo Chavez Mendez, whose style �Curvismo� adds curved lines and magical backgrounds to realistic works. I rediscovered my love for art and found my passion for oil painting after being diagnosed with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) and Fibromyalgia in 2005. Having previously worked as an audiologist and later in pharmaceuticals, chronic disease forced me to abandon my career to stay home and rest. What I didn't know was that a new opportunity was blooming. During this challenging period of change I was encouraged by my son-in-law, a very talented artist, to "just paint", but shortly thereafter we lost him to suicide.
