Summer is the second panel in a four panel series titled "Four Seasons". The first panel, Spring evolved out of a sketch done by my former son-in-law at a live model open studio session many years before. After completing the first panel I had a dream that this was to be a series of pieces depicting the four seasons, and that each panel would have a man and woman inside or on something. I played Vivaldi's Four Seasons while painting. In Summer all of life seems to be rapidly growing, and the two are unaware of the explosions of color that are occurring while they nap in the heat of the day. To me this represents that time of life when we are so busy with everything that life flies past us without us always taking notice.
I rediscovered my love for art and found my passion for oil painting after being diagnosed with Myalgic Encephalomyelitis/Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS) and Fibromyalgia in 2005. Having previously worked as an audiologist and later in pharmaceuticals, chronic disease forced me to abandon my career to stay home and rest. What I didn't know was that a new opportunity was blooming. During this challenging period of change I was encouraged by my son-in-law, a very talented artist, to "just paint", but shortly thereafter we lost him to suicide. Having inherited the contents of his studio, his influence is present in my work.
